Melasma: A holistic approach for balanced skin

Melasma is a skin condition characterized by the appearance of brown spots on the skin, primarily on the face. Approximately 90% of melasma cases are observed in women, particularly those with darker skin tones (phototypes III to V). The spots are usually symmetrical and appear on both sides of the face in sun-exposed areas, such as the cheeks, forehead, nose, and sometimes the chin.

Epidermal melasma is characterized by superficial brown pigmentation in the epidermis, while dermal melasma presents a more bluish or greyish pigmentation due to melanin deposits in the dermis.

The mixed type combines both, making treatment more complex for conventional approaches. Fortunately, with the subtle and profound effects of multireflex tools, we won’t need to alter our treatment plan.

We must remember that visible dark spots on the face can also impact self-esteem. As this sometimes leads to psychological stress, our treatment approach must include actions on the nervous system.
Therefore, understanding the causes of melasma and composing an appropriate treatment in Dien Chan is essential for improving both the appearance of the skin and overall well-being.

Let’s detail the possible causes to determine whether a yin or yang approach would be most suitable.

A| Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays stimulates melanocytes, the cells responsible for melanin production (the skin pigment), which can lead to excess pigmentation.

◾︎ Oh! As soon as we know this, we can interpret the excess pigmentation as a yang reaction, as it represents a “concentration” or “overactivity”.

B| Melasma is often associated with hormonal changes, such as those occurring during pregnancy (commonly referred to as the pregnancy mask or chloasma), the use of oral contraceptives, or hormone therapy.
Additionally, some skincare products or makeup can irritate the skin and cause reactions that manifest as dark spots.

◾︎ This information also indicates a yang reaction, an overactivity of the hormonal system, which can be an internal and external inflammation.

We see that we are dealing with a yang reaction expressed on the face as melasma and this invites us to use a yin interaction.

We will use several multireflex tools that will allow us to work on the affected areas and reduce internal tension through their yin effect.

The yin effect produced by the metal miniprongs of yin rollers or smooth brass cylinders cannot be achieved with plastic or quartz tools, let alone jade ones. These latter only allow for wellness massages and risk stimulating melanin production.

The Double yin-roller nº308

Only multireflex tools offer a dispersing and calming effect without damaging the epidermis. Other utensils have yang effects and do not guarantee respect for the skin microbiome. Brass and stainless steel (like horn for the yang effect) fully respect the skin without spreading bacteria due to their natural antiseptic properties.

We will strengthen our treatment with a proposal for bqc·points targeting hormonal regulation functions as well as improving skin quality. We also recommend other blog articles that are highly recommended to enrich your knowledge and inspire you.

1| Always begin by addressing the overall condition of the person. Refer to other articles to learn how to start, regulate stress, etc.

2| For the local step, work on the face to benefit from the yin effect of our instruments. Start by performing about fifty back-and-forth movements on the affected areas with the Double mini yin roller nº308. Use gentle and delicate movements without applying pressure to fully enjoy the coolness of the multireflex tool.

The yin effect of this first phase will relax the tissues and encourage the skin to calm melanin production in the area.

3| The reflex step will allow us to continue the relaxation process while following the indications of the internal organs reflex diagram projected onto the face. Still using a yin effect, we target areas that will help release blockages preventing the skin from quickly regaining balance.

  • For Western medicine, skin disorders are primarily related to the nervous and hormonal systems.
  • TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) tells us that the Metal element (meridian of the Large Intestine and Lung) governs the skin.
  • But we also need to consider that we will need to stimulate blood and lymphatic circulation to reduce visible spots.

Let’s start by calming liver activity with the smooth cylinder (brass gold) of the Beauty-brush nº252 or the smooth sphere of the nº207 tool. Roll the right cheek at the level of the wing of the nose; perform about thirty passes.

This yin work on the liver helps nourish liver blood while promoting circulation to combat stagnation.
To complement this action, we also need to massage the spleen area. With the minibristle of the Beauty-brush nº252, gently massage the spleen area indicated by the reflection diagram located on the left cheek.

With the same Beauty-brush nº252 or the Ovoid beauty nº373, complete this step by massaging the nasolabial fold. Start on the right side of the mouth where the reflex zone of the large intestine is located and gently massage about twenty times following the fold. Then repeat on the left side.

This stimulates the activity of the gut microbiota, which contributes to improving skin elasticity.

To work yin on the lung area, we can use the Double mini roller yin nº308 and perform back-and-forth movements on the cheekbones and above the eyebrows. However, for those who are trained and know how to use the Multireflex Detector nº101 or the Small hammer nº128, we will propose a constellation of bqc·points to stimulate during the consolidation step.

4| The consolidation with a bqc·points formula is necessary for long-term results.
Our constellation includes bqc·points targeting blood circulation (1· 60· 189· 50· 37·), as well as the hormonal system (73· 287· 14· 17·).

We also address the important functions of the large intestine and lungs to stimulate the Metal element (38· 342· 3· 61·).
And we complete with bqc·points that have a calming effect on the nervous system (124· 34· 103·)

The Little-hammer nº128 and the bqc·points constellation

We emphasize that this bqc·points sequence is not a rigid formula, but rather a dynamic constellation of points, allowing you to select those that are most sensitive and relevant for each person. By adopting this approach, you can create fully personalized Dien Chan formulas tailored to your clients’ specific needs, thereby maximizing the effectiveness of your treatments.

By mastering the use of the Faceasit application, the reference tool for Dien Chan, you will discover how easy and quick it is to design customized constellations. The main goal of our training is to inspire you and unleash your creativity, allowing you to fully express your therapeutic talent. We will guide you in designing personalized and innovative care plans tailored to each client, so you can offer truly customized treatments.

5| If you are in a professional consultation, then advise the person on the multireflex tool that gave them the most pleasure (Beauty-brush nº252 or the smooth sphere of the nº207 multireflex tool) so they can continue the treatment at home and thus enhance the effects that will only be visible after several days.

  • Using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 daily is essential to prevent worsening of melasma.
  • Avoid topical or chemical treatments that only aim to lighten spots and have a very yang effect in the long run.

Melasma is a persistent and complex condition that requires a multidimensional care approach. By combining Dien Chan techniques with principles from Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is possible to effectively treat the underlying causes of this hyperpigmentation, whether they are hormonal, related to sun exposure, or due to other internal imbalances.

Using specific multireflex tools, such as yin rollers or brass cylinders (yin as well), provides a gentle solution that respects the skin’s microbiome while promoting natural regulation of melanin production.

To achieve lasting results, it is essential to personalize each treatment based on the individual needs of each client, taking into account their general condition, skin type, and energetic imbalances.

The bqc·points constellation we proposed allows for this personalization, offering a holistic and tailored approach.

We emphasize the importance of educating each client on home prevention care, particularly on the regular use of a broad-spectrum sunscreen and adopting a healthy lifestyle. By incorporating these practices into their daily routine, they can not only reduce the appearance of brown spots but also enhance their overall well-being to regain self-confidence.

It is also essential to remember that each case of melasma is unique. By adding authentic Dien Chan to your range of professional techniques, you will offer your clients a brighter and more balanced skin while contributing to their emotional and mental well-being.

In self-care, incorporate Dien Chan gestures into your skincare routine to gradually reduce the appearance of melasma.
As always, in case of concerns or if the condition persists, it is recommended to consult a healthcare professional or dermatologist.
